As part of a larger initiative on equity in social work, the issue of payment for social work internships has taken center stage. Should BSW and MSW students receive compensation while in their placements? What are the logistical and ethical considerations? How does this impact accreditation standards? What do other professional disciplines do?

Join Hasna Kazi, University of Michigan MSW student and Co Vice-Chair of UM Payments for Placement, presenter; and Cheryl Hyde, ACOSA Chair, host and moderator.

Payment for Placements is a national student-led initiative advocating for social work students to be paid for their degree-required field work. Payment for Placements was started at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor by MSW students Matt Dargay and Arie Davey in the Fall of 2021. Since its inception, Payment for Placements has grown into a national movement. Today, the initiative has chapters across the country.

Payment for Placements at the University of Michigan has been featured in The Michigan Daily and The Detroit News, and Deadline Detroit. Payment for Placements at San Diego State University has been featured in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Event is open to all social work students, faculty, administrators, and field education staff.
