SPECIAL COMMISSION ENDORSES THE NATIONAL SOCIAL WORK VOTER MOBILIZATION CAMPAIGN! PLEDGE TO PARTICIPATE!
Voter engagement of clients and constituencies is central to social work Both the NASW Code of Ethics and CSWE (EPAS-2015) endorse activism and human rights. Yet studies show that (1) many social workers still wrongly believe that voter mobilization is partisan, illegal or unimportant, and (2) the profession has been slow to incorporate non-partisan voter engagement as an important part of its mission.
Therefore, the National Social Work Voter Mobilization Campaign is
Raising awareness of the importance of voting to social work practice and social policy outcomes.
Promoting trainings that refute the prevailing myths,
Explaining why voting matters to the social work community,
Integrating voter engagement activities into field education for all micro and macro students,
Offering voter mobilization skills and strategies for field instructors, staff, students and faculty,
Ensuring that ALL he people we serve have access to the vote.
The engagement and mobilization of social workers is key to the success of this historic Campaign. Given our strategic location between clients and society, social workers are especially well-position take the lead. As more and more schools of social work sign on The Campaign --working though field placements – is gaining access to millions of highly under-represented clients and communities as well as students faculty, and field instructors The Campaign is catalyzing the profession to bring voter engagement activities into all corners of social work education. As of spring 2018, the Campaign has been endorsed by: the Council on Social Work Education, and the Council on Field Education (COFE); the North American Network of Field Educators and Directors; National Association of Deans and Directors; Special Commission to Advance Macro Practice in Social Work; Network of Social Work Management; Association for Community Organization and Social Administration; #MacroSW; Influencing Social Policy; Association for Community Organization and Social Administration; C.R.I.S.P.; and many NASW State Chapters.
